MISSION

Mission

At Mahai Retreat, we are dedicated to fostering healing and growth in a safe and serene space. Owned by the Spirit Voyage Legacy Foundation, our mission is to provide a transformative space where individuals can embark on a journey of healing and learning.

Inspired by the vision of our founder, Karan Khalsa, we created a business model that not only sustains our retreat center but also funds programs for survivors of trauma and abuse within the yoga community. Every retreat hosted at Mahai directly contributes to these initiatives, allowing us to support those in need while nurturing the well-being of all who seek solace within our haven. Join us in our mission to make a meaningful difference

—one retreat, one healing journey at a time.

History

Mahai Retreat emerges from the visionary journey of its founder, Karan Khalsa, whose career in music production, yoga products and yoga events spans over two decades. As the owner of Spirit Voyage Records, Karan has played a pivotal role in bringing sacred music to the global stage, producing and releasing albums from renowned artists including Ajeet, Snatam Kaur, Mirabai Ceiba, Jai-Jagdeesh, Ram Dass, GuruGanesha Singh, Nirinjan Kaur, Sukhmani, Ashana, Aykanna, Awaré  and many more.

In 2010, she founded the transformative yoga festival, Sat Nam Fest, and for a decade those festivals brought together thousands worldwide for heart-centered gatherings blending yoga and music. Inspired by the community's desire to give back, Karan established a non-profit organization that spearheaded initiatives to implement sustainable solutions like solar energy and rainwater harvesting systems in orphanages and crisis centers across the globe.

Following revelations of widespread abuse within the Kundalini Yoga community in 2020, the team redirected their philanthropic efforts towards supporting survivors of trauma and abuse, birthing the vision for Mahai. Karan believes the incredible healing power of community that so many experienced at Sat Nam Fest and at the concerts of all sacred music artists traveling the globe who spread love through their music can be harnessed into even deeper healing through this transformative project.

Building Mahai was made possible by the generous donations of Tina and Davis Mangold, whose support of the project's mission and vision birthed it into being. Moving forward, Mahai is poised to become a self-sustaining endeavor, with every retreat directly funding the healing initiatives it was founded to support.

We invite you to join us on this journey of healing, transformation, and community, as we collectively weave a tapestry of love, resilience, and empowerment at Mahai Retreat.
